Clinical Pilates
Pilates is the most effective tool to improve your posture & improving the effectivity and efficiency of how your body functions.
How can Clinical Pilates help YOU?
Are you in pain or wanting to avoid pain, or are you simply wanting to improve your posture? Clinical pilates will be ideal for you.
At KPC we look at each body as an individual, ensuring that you get the most out of each on-on-one session. Some clients come in purely to work with Clinical Pilates as an exercise form that is safe, guided by a medical specialist and thus gives maximum results. Sometimes the clinical pilates work is combines with other modalities such as massage, soft tissue work, taping etc. which can lead to greater results.
In the clinic we focus on using equipment to re-train the functionality of your body ensuring that your system works effectively and efficiently. This is the only way that the body can heal itself as well as reduce the risk of overuse or acute injuries.
Your physiotherapist will focus on quality of movement patterns and ensure the movements challenge the body in all the same ways that your daily life will. you will then be given exercises based on the work you have done to continue improving at home. The advantage is that the exercises you do trigger the body to function optimally in between sessions, allowing your body to strengthen itself and thus treat itself all day long.
What you will notice?
Clinical Pilates will improve the function of the trunk stabilizing muscles, resulting in better posture, co-ordination, body awareness and flexibility. Clinical Pilates will also correct faulty mechanics that underlie recurring sporting and spinal injuries.
An effective Clinical Pilates program will lead to reduced pain levels and injury recurrence, improved ability to perform work, sporting and social activities.
HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO GYM PILATES?
All sessions are one-on-one as opposed to classes giving you maximum results as they are targeted to your personal needs and your current situation. All sessions focus on using equipment - this is far more effective in teaching the brain and muscles correct movement pattern. You wouldn’t want someone driving your car who has only ever sat on a chair pretending how to drive would you?
DO YOU NEED TO BE IN PAIN TO BENEFIT?
No not at all. You may just want to work on improving your posture as you spend all day behind a screen, you. may want to strengthen and optimise the functionality of your body so that you can perform your sports at a higher level and reduce the injuries.
What conditions will benefit from Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is extremely effective in treating spinal, shoulder and hip problems. For example – clinical research has shown that poor strength and endurance of the spinal and abdominal stabilising muscles is associated with low back pain. Similarly lack of strength and flexibility in the upper spine and shoulders is associated with neck and shoulder problems. Thankfully the specific retraining of these muscles that occurs with Clinical Pilates programs successfully restores strength and flexibility, reducing pain and the risk of injury recurrence.
Our physiotherapists have a comprehensive understanding of the biomechanics and pathology of spinal, shoulder and hip pain. They will ensure you receive personalised programs to significantly reduce and manage your symptoms.
Clinical Pilates will deliver great benefit for many conditions, including but not limited to:
Low back / mid back and neck pain
Lumbar disc and facet pathology, arthritis or instability
Headaches
Shoulder and hip problems
Pre and post-pregnancy pain
Sports injuries - treatment and prevention
