Medical Flossing
No, this has nothing to do with your teeth or the weird dance of todays kids!
Medical Flossing uses an (on average) 1,3mm thick, 2m long and 5cm wide latex band to support medical treatment.
What to expect FROM THIS TECHNIQUE
This technique is a relatively new technique, having only really been developed by and for physiotherapists in the last number of years. Many athletes had amazing instantaneous releases of pain and joint mobility with non-specific applications, so physios started to take it further and use the technique to really enhance and help in the treatment environment.
It is ideal in both acute injuries but also chronic changes to the body.
Your Physio will do a detailed assessment as always, and incorporate this technique into the treatment how and when is needed.
HOW IT CAN HELP YOU
If you have any of the following:
Tennis elbow
shoulder irritations / stiffness
poor posture
ankle injuries
knee pain
you have had an operation
muscles / myofascial injuries
and many more
can you apply this band at home/during sports
If you and your Physiotherapist have determined that this technique works well for you then a home program will be developed.
This may be based on an unspecific application with more tension but shorter times, through to the more functional applications that can stay on throughout the training and enhance your training.
It is important to have a fully trained Physio show you exactly what to do as when this is applied wrong you can actually damage the tissue as well.
